Joseph A. Grover began serving his second two-year term as Vice President of the USTA in January 2009 following one term as a Director at Large. He is Chair of the Audit Committee, and is a member of the Budget Committee, Compensation Committee and the Strategic Planning Committee. Grover also serves as Board Liaison to the USTA sections and is a member of the ITF’s Rules of Tennis Committee.
As a Director at Large, Grover served as Board Liaison to the Adult/Senior Council and was a member of the Board’s Audit Committee before being appointed Chair in 2007. Prior to his election to the USTA Board of Directors, Grover served as the Council Chair of the Administration Division and was a member of the Advisory Group on Committees. Previously, he served on the Nominating Committee, and for 13 years on the Youth Competition and Training Committee, first as a member and later as the Junior Rankings Coordinator. He also was a member of the USTA League Committee, where he chaired the NTRP subcommittee, and of the Information Technology Committee, which he also chaired.
Grover was a long-time volunteer in the USTA Midwest Section, serving as President and Section Delegate during multiple terms on the Midwest Section’s Board of Directors, 1990-2001, and in a number of committee positions since 1980. A member of the USTA Mid-Atlantic Section since 2005, he serves on the board of the USTA Mid-Atlantic Tennis and Education Foundation and is a member of the Richmond (Va.) Tennis Association. He is also an enthusiastic participant, playing tennis several times a week as time permits.
Grover received a B.S. in Chemistry from Alma College in Michigan and a Ph.D. in Physical Organic Chemistry from the University of Alberta, Edmonton. He retired from the Dow Chemical Company in 1998 following a career in research and development in polymer chemistry. He is also a registered U.S. Patent Agent, holds a C.P.A. certification and conducts a tax practice.
Grover and his wife, Shima, live within the Mid-Atlantic Section in Richmond. They have a daughter, a son and four grandchildren.
