2012 Easter Bowl ITF B1 Acceptance Process
The Easter Bowl 18 and under event has been a closed ITF Grade B1 event since 2005. The same acceptance process has been used each year. Players must have an active ITF IPIN account in order to enter and compete in this event.
Step 1
In an agreement with the International Tennis Federation Juniors Committee, a truncated list of the top 50 Americans on the ITF Junior Ranking List is created. If any of the players on this list enter they receive direct acceptances. The March 12, 2012 ITF ranking list will be used to create this truncated list. In 2011 the last boy accepted from the ITF ranking was ranked 732. The last girl accepted from the ITF ranking was ranked ITF 484. As has been the case every year, not all 50 players enter the tournament. In 2011, 44 boys and 37 girls from this truncated list entered the Easter Bowl. In accordance with the
agreement with the ITF, this is the last time that ITF rankings are used for any
purpose.
Step 2
The remaining vacancies are filled with players not already accepted from the
Boys’ and Girls’ 18 and under National Standing List in the order in which they
appear on that list. The list from March 14, 2012 will be used for this purpose.
In 2010, 12 boys and 19 girls received direct acceptance from this list.
Step 3
According to ITF rules, eight (8) wild cards are available for a 64 draw event.
Four (4) of the eight wild cards are reserved for the semi-finalists of the USTA
National Spring Championships played in Mobile, Alabama if they are not already accepted in step 1. In 2011 one reserved wild card was used. Unused wild cards revert back to the wild card committee.
Step 4
Alternates are ordered using the March 14, 2012 Boys’ and Girls’ 18 and under
National Standing List in the order in which they appear on that list.
