USTA Training Center – East (USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, New York)

The USTA Training Center - East is located at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, New York. The USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center is the largest public tennis facility in the world. Operated by the USTA for the City of New York, the facility opened in 1978 when the USTA moved the US Open from the West Side Tennis Club in Forest Hills, NY. It is, most certainly, a "Tennis Welcome Center."

In 1997, the USTA opened Arthur Ashe Stadium as its main stadium and expanded the tennis facilities at the USTA National Tennis Center. The construction increased the number of courts on the grounds from 25 to 45 and saw the acreage more than double to 46.5 acres. In 2006, the USTA renamed the entire facility the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in honor of one of tennis’ finest ambassadors and a product of public courts in her native Long Beach, Calif.

Expansion of the USTA National Tennis Center has increased the number of outdoor courts available for public play to 30. This does not include Arthur Ashe Stadium, Louis Armstrong Stadium or the Grandstand. In addition, there are 12 indoor courts for public use with the completion of the new Indoor Tennis Center.
Training Center - East (TCE) opened it's doors on January 13, 2010 for elite tennis players.  Our goal is to work with top American juniors and their personal coaches throughout the Northeast.  We presently run both a full time program (all home schooling must be arranged separately by the interested parties) and an after school program.  We are interested in serious athletes with the desire and potential to become professional tennis players.  Generally, we hold two open tryouts annually, every January and May and applications are posted in December and April respectively.

USTA Training Center Season Schedule and Try outs.
The year is broken down into a spring, summer and fall season with students having to earn their spot in the program each and every season.  Cuts are made each season generally in April, August and December/January based on the student's work ethic, intensity, commitment, growth and development.

Our application period for the May 2012 tryouts has officially closed.  We will update this section as soon as we determine the next tryout dates.
All timeslots will be filled on a first come, first served basis.  Due to overwhelming interest, we will not be able to accomodate any exceptions.
We will be looking at students born in 2003 and older. All tryouts will take place at the USTA BJK National Tennis Center by appointment only; we will not accept any walkins during our tryouts.  The Spring and Fall programs are broken down into two options, an afterschool or a fulltime program and the Summer program is daytime only.
