USTA SERVICE BOWL AWARD

USTA Semiannual Meeting & Conference.
ELIGIBILITY
A female player who meets the criteria.
CRITERIA
A player who makes the most notable contribution to the sportsmanship, fellowship, and service of tennis. A player is defined as having had at least a sectional ranking or higher in any category.
SELECTION PROCESS
Past recipients nominate candidates for consideration and serve as the Selection Committee. Recipient is determined by the most votes received.
TIMETABLE
April / May: A letter is sent to past Service Bowl recipients for nominations.
June: Deadline for nominations.
July: Votes are tabulated
August/Sept: Recipient is announced at the USTA Semiannual Meeting.

HISTORY
“To the Player Who Yearly Makes the Most Notable Contribution to the Sportsmanship, Fellowship, and Service of Tennis.” This inscription is engraved on the Service Bowl trophy donated by Mrs. Lyman H.B. Olmsted and a group of thirty New England women in 1940 to honor the example of Mrs. Hazel H. Wightman. The Service Bowl Award is an annual award that was limited to New England women tennis players for the first four years. Since 1944, it has been awarded on a nationwide basis, usually by the USTA President during the US Open.
