Innovation: Timed Tennis League
Rationale: Indoor court owners want to fill unused afternoon court time and players want predictability in match time.
- Players can count on predictable match times (90 minutes).
- All players begin and end at the same time providing social interaction with several players, not only opponents.
- Order of strength on teams provides competitive matches for all.
- Working and/or time-crunched tennis players can work this set time into their weekly schedule.
Proven where: Bucks and Montgomery Counties in the Philadelphia, PA area. The league began in the 1980s with five indoor facilities and has grown to 14 facilities, three levels of league play, 75 teams and more than 1000 participants.
Quote from the innovator: “We wanted to provide fun, good competition and social tennis for all participants while satisfying the club owners’ need to fill dead court time.” Susan McGoldrick, Magarity Tennis Club
