INDIAN WELLS, Calif. – After a morning of exciting tennis at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden, the match-ups for the women’s semifinals have been determined at the 2012 USTA League 4.5 Senior National Championships.

In the women’s semifinals, the Southern Section from Charlotte N.C., which won Flight 2 with a 3-0 record, will face the Middle States Section from Philadelphia. They finished in first place in Flight 4 with a 3-0 record.

In the other women’s semifinal, the Eastern Section from Syracuse, N.Y., winners of Flight 3 with a 2-1 record, will play the New England Section from Boston, which won Flight 1 with a 3-0 record.

Early this morning, the Southern Section women’s team clinched its semifinal spot, cruising past the Florida Section women’s team with an impressive 3-0 victory in its final flight match.

The No. 3 doubles team of Carolyn McGarry and Joann Crolley defeated Florida’s Janet Poort and Lyn Ballinger, 6-3, 6-2 to seal the victory for the Southern Section.

"I was just trying to go point by point, but once it was over, it was a great feeling," McGarry said after the victory over Florida. "We really don’t look too far ahead. We have a great team. We’re like a family and that helps us all play well."
According to Crolley, the team’s unity was one of the main factors that helped them advance to this afternoon’s semifinals.

"All of our teammates work so hard before we even (got) here. We tried really hard to help each other through," Crolley said. "We are such a wonderful group of girls. We love traveling together and being together. The wins are just in the plus column."

The men’s semifinals and women’s final are scheduled for 7:30 a.m. (PDT) on Sunday. The men’s final will take place at approximately 10 a.m. (PDT).
