Thirty-five competitors enjoyed nearly perfect weather while participating in the 10th annual Sacramento Capital Wheelchair Tennis Tournament at Johnson Ranch Racquet Club in Roseville, CA June 22-24, 2012.  In the past few years, Sacramento's hot weather significantly intensified the competition taking place on the tennis courts.  However, this year players enjoyed temps in the mid 70's while playing some thrilling tennis!

Friday's play was dominated by open matches and SCWTA was pleased to host the Paralympic quad team of David Wagner and Nick Taylor playing in two of the singles matches that started the afternoon.  By the time that the courtside pasta dinner was served,  five singles matches and five doubles matches had been played.   It was a great afternoon of tennis.

Players were eager to get started on Saturday morning with 4 matches at 9:00 a.m.  Sacramento's unseasonably cool weather was appreciated by all but, by the time lunch arrived some sprinkles of rain were being felt by players, spectators, and volunteers.  Fortunately, the sprinkles were short lived and play continued with five singles matches and five doubles matches during the afternoon.  Between matches players were able to relax with courtside massage services.

Saturday night's banquet at the tournament hotel was a veritable feast with tri tip, BBQ chicken, potato salad, baked beans and corn on the cob.  As the caramel apple cake dessert was served, tournament volunteers helped to pick the winning tickets in a drawing for some great player prizes that included an iPad, Kindle Fire, Sony Blu-ray player, Polaroid Tablet, digital video camera, digital camera, and gift certificates from Disabled Sports USA for Water Skiing and a 4 Wheel Drive adventure.  Everyone enjoyed themselves, particularly the prize winners!

Sunday was another fabulous day with blue skies and cool temperatures.  Play started promptly at 9:00 a.m.  with the Men's Open Final match between Marty Anderson and David Wagner and by 11:00 a.m. the Men's Open doubles match got underway.  By the time the tournament concluded on Sunday afternoon, 14 matches had been played, another fabulous lunch was served, and more courtside massage soothed and relaxed tired muscles.

As the tournament concluded, all of the players, spectators, and volunteers were excited to send off the quad team of David Wagner and Nick Taylor to the London Paralympics.  This talented duo previously won the gold in quad doubles in the 2004 and the 2008 games.  This year's Paralympic Games marks the sixth time wheelchair tennis will be part of the competition. Go Team USA!
