The trophies keep coming in for all-time quad great David Wagner.

The Chula Vista, Calif., resident teamed with Great Britain’s Andrew Lapthorne to win the 2014 Australian Open quad doubles title, defeating Australia’s Dylan Alcott and South Africa’s Lucas Sithole, 6-4, 6-4, in the final. Wagner and Lapthorne committed just four unforced errors in the match and converted on 5 of their 11 break-point opportunities.

The championship marks Wagner’s fifth quad doubles title in Melbourne, having won previously with fellow American Nick Taylor in 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2013. Wagner and Taylor also own five US Open Wheelchair Competition doubles titles and captured the Paralympic gold medal in quad doubles in 2004, 2008 and 2012.

Also Thursday, Wagner defeated Sithole, 7-6, 7-6, in singles to advance to the Australian Open quad singles final. He will face Sithole again in the final; both Wagner and Sithole went 2-1 in round-robin play to advance.

Wagner is the defending Australian Open quad singles champion, having won the tournament twice (2011, ’13) in his career.
