5.0 Southern Women Team

A lot going on…
First timers at a 5.0 Nationals, the Women Southern team knows a lot having too much on their plates. This group of lovely ladies from Charlotte, North Carolina are moms to 16 children!. As captain Dale Hall explains, the challenge to “raise kids, work and maintain a high level of tennis” is what makes this team a special one.

They all admit that they work really hard to make it to practices, matches and even fundraising. These gals hosted to a carwash to help with traveling expenses to Palm Springs (they washed a little more than 60 cars in 4 hours). For this team tennis is “a family event” as Mariana Hollman, a teaching pro, adds. Dads, moms and in-laws are helping out this weekend while Moms play here.

This team reunites a third-shift delivery nurse; two teaching pros, sales marketing rep and they say that “they really have confidence on each other play” which really helps them get along.

Kids, be proud of your mamas, they are all looking good and playing hard.
Best of luck and keep having fun!

Eastern Section 5.0 team

International boys
The Men Eastern team is going international. Players from this team come from all over the world and are looking solid at these Nationals. Zimbabwe, Spain, Brasil, India, Romania and the US are the countries represented in this team of eight. Daniel Rockhill captains the team.

The Mighty, Mighty Pineapples
(yep, two mightys!)

After years of being the “Ballbusters” team, Captain George Wolf took a friend’s advice. His friend told him “you should be the Mighty, Mighty Pineapples after all you are from Hawaii”. So, George changed the name even when the team showed a little resistance. They brought pineapples to all captains to the first meeting. .Apparently, the name worked because today this team is working hard to earn a position in the semifinals round.
Go Mighty, Mighty Pineapples!

Day two @ 5.0's, teams are battling up their positions to advance to semis!

Day Two @ Palm Springs
After a great BBQ last night, teams are right back battling their positions to advance to semifinals. Matches are running smoothly here at Moore Academy in Palm Springs. The Women Midwest Team earns the first win of the day over Eastern. Temperatures continue to reach the 100’sF. Keep checking this webpage for more news, photos and results.Good luck, teams!

Joe Hignight’s Cheerleading Squad

Joe Hignight’s Cheerleading Squad
Cheerleaders make it better! Just ask Joe Hignight, a teaching pro from Florida’s team. All
wife, mother and father comment on Joe and his Florida team.Dianne(wife): "Florida has the best looking 5.0 team"Shirley(mom): " My son is doing what he told he was going to do at 14 years of age. Teaching tennis"John(dad): " He will never retire from tennis. He loves it too much"Congratulations to Joe for such a beautiful and enthusiastic family. Now we hope that being good looking helps you win the Championships! Good luck to all!

We miss u!
The Women’s Northern Section team from Saint Paul, Minnesota is missing somebody special here in Palm Springs. Pamela Sommer has been their captain throughout this whole season. Sommer is not here due to health issues. Kathleen Bjornson, team member, misses her "left hand return and service". Catherine Resch adds "we truly wish she was here with us". And don’t think for one second that this group of gals have no leader, Anne Schmidt has taken over this group of tennis veterans and they look forward to return to Minnesota with lots of love and a championship trophy for their dear captain. Good luck!

Southern men have the first win on Day One
The Men’s Southern Section team, from Charlestown, is looking strong as they won the first encounter this morning over the Missouri Valley team. Score was 3-0.
