It’s not often that one can say they’ve been part of every single tennis program a section has to offer. But in the case of volunteer extraordinaire Denise Ariew of USTA Southern Arizona, that’s the case.

"There is not one person in the USTA Southwest section who single-handedly does as much for tennis as Denise Ariew,” said Bev Zoub of USTA Southern Arizona. “She has endless energy to grow the game of tennis in Southern Arizona.”

An avid tennis player herself born in France, when not dedicating herself to her family as a wife, mother, and grandmother, Denise expresses herself through arts and crafts. But perhaps her main investment of time is as a volunteer with USTA Southwest and USTA Southern Arizona. The following is just a sampling of her impressive record of volunteering:

  • Past Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer of USTA Southern Arizona
  • Southwest Wheelchair Classic Tournament Committee member
  • Past Secretary and Treasurer of USTA Southwest section
  • Current Vice President of USTA Southwest section
  • Current Chair of Community Tennis Committee of USTA Southwest
  • Current Chair of Strategic Planning Committee of USTA Southwest

Denise has been particularly active with adult tennis in the Tucson community, helping organize community-based programs that provide playing time during the non-league season. Her newest project is helping a task force increase the opportunity for youth team tennis, based on her success with growing adult participation.

"Denise works tirelessly and spends a lot of time enhancing programs and helping other volunteers and coordinators run quality events,” said USTA Southern Arizona President Jennifer Fuchs. “I admire her loyalty and dedication."
