When we started the USTA Competition Training Centers (CTC's) in 1988, we all knew that the concept of bringing together our very best players to compete and train was a great plan. Since that time we have tried to provide all of the coaches involved in the program with the latest information in sport science and technical coaching developments.
Currently, there are approximately 100 CTC's around the United States. CTC's offer low cost, high level training to the best players within a geographic area. These centers are designed as supplemental training for players ages 10-13. This program is not designed to replace the players' existing coaching program but to provide additional knowledge and match opportunities in a fun team environment. CTC's offer a mixture of competition and match play, drills, fitness, strategy and skill development and sport science information.
Many of our best young professional players have gone through our CTC programs and thus we have to thank you, the coaches, involved in the program. This program reaches a great number of High Performance junior players and since the inception of this program you have assisted in the development of thousands of junior tennis players. Our continued goal is to develop the base of great junior tennis players from the United States. Each year the CTC program assists to reach approximately 2000 of our best young junior players. Therefore, it is important that we continue to challenge ourselves to develop as coaches. In addition, we need to continually challenge these good young players so that they too can become the best possible players that they can be.
These training centers usually run from September-June, but vary by section, so please check with you section or contact your local CTC to find out more information about start dates, acceptance and involvement in the program.
