The USTA Wheelchair Committee is pleased to announce two new resources designed to help communities start and grow wheelchair tennis programs. The first resource is a comprehensive, step-by-step grassroots tennis guide, which includes tools to help CTAs understand what is currently happening with wheelchair tennis in their communities and assess the infrastructure. The guide also includes valuable tools to help CTAs find players, conduct exhibitions and camps, and teach wheelchair players.

There are also step-by-step instructions on how to market your programs, raise funds, and grow your existing programs. And there’s a listing of USTA programs, including Leagues, Jr. Team Tennis, Tennis on Campus, the QuickStart Tennis format, etc., and how to integrate wheelchair players into those programs and formats. This guide compliments the current Collegiate Wheelchair Tennis Guide already available.

The second resource is an instructional DVD and manual designed to provide a comprehensive overview of the skills required in wheelchair tennis for coaches, teachers, instructors and pros. Included in this DVD/Manual are video demonstrations of the essentials of wheelchair tennis, including equipment, grips, mobility, stroke production, strategies and tactics, and quad tennis.

Both of these resources will be available soon in hard copy as well as downloadable from the USTA website www.usta.com/wheelchairtennis. For more information contact Dan James or Jeremiah Yolkut at wheelchairinfo@usta.com
