FLORENCE (S.C.) TENNIS ASSOCIATION TO PROVIDE FREE TENNIS INSTRUCTION IN FLORENCE SCHOOL DISTRICT

This spring the Florence Tennis Association (FTA) will provide free tennis instruction to children in Florence School District One’s after-school programs. Following the end of the school year, the FTA and District One will team up again to provide similar programs during the District’s Summer Camps for elementary school children.

The programs will utilize the QuickStart Tennis format that features smaller racquets, shorter courts, softer tennis balls and modified scoring, designed to make learning tennis easy and fun for younger children, who can learn at their own pace. The classes will be taught by certified tennis teaching professionals.

This program is one of many the FTA offers without charge to local children. This summer, the FTA will again provide the Genesis Program for at-risk children and the Abriendo Puertas Program for Hispanic youth.

The FTA also manages the Jr. Team Tennis League, provides training clinics, and conducts tournaments for more advanced junior players. In addition, it provides travel stipends for competitive junior players, sponsors youth activities provided by area tennis professionals, and supports the tennis teams at local high schools and universities. In 2007, the Florence Tennis Association was named USTA CTA of the Year.
