If you ask someone which team won a Championship people can usually recall. However, the second-placed team is often a second thought. This year, it was the runner-up squad that was rewarded with a berth into the 2008 USTA League presented by Chrysler 5.0 Adult National Championships.
The veteran Minneapolis team, was willing and ready to use this as an opportunity to represent the Northern Section. After advancing through the Section Championships year after year, the squad always seemed to fall short of their goal.
“We have always been hoping we could get to the Championships and this year it worked out for us, Jon Gerdin, Caption of the team replied.
This year’s Section Championships ended like it had each of the previous years - with a second place finish. The self-proclaimed “Slow Motion” never would have guessed their performance was worthy of a trip to Indian Wells, Calif.
“We couldn’t believe it when were notified that we would be getting the chance to represent the Northern Section at Nationals,” said Gerdin. “We jumped at the chance to fulfill a goal we have all been working towards.”
With the first day of competition in the books, the team is optimistic after winning 1team match on the first day.
Only time will tell if the opportunity pays off for “Slow Motion.”
