Players, volunteers and staff enjoyed a well-deserved break from the courts Friday night at the Player Dinner and Party at the Sacramento Marriott.
To kick the evening off, Kim Ramirez, the East Bay Regional Manager from the Bank of the West had lined a wall outside the dining room with 500 teddy bears. (The bear is the company mascot and the official state animal of California). Players lined up for a free teddy bear and entered a raffle for a chance to win a pair of tickets to the semifinals of the 2009 Bank of the West Classic next July at Stanford University. (The women’s event at Stanford University in Palo Alto, California is the first tournament in the popular US Open Series each summer.) Access to the VIP hospitality at the tournament was included with the pair of tickets.
“Our territory consists of the 19 western states in the U.S.,” explained Kim Ramirez of the Bank of the West. “So, being here at the Western Mixed Doubles is a no-brainer for us. Supporting tennis is important to our company,” continues Ramirez. “We’ve been the title sponsor of the Bank of the West Classic women’s pro tournament for over 20 years now. Having a presence at the USTA League National Championships – Western Mixed Doubles for the first time is just a natural extension of our efforts to support tennis.”
Following dinner, numerous prizes -- Head backpacks and duffle bags, USTA hats and visors and more -- were given out to those players lucky enough to find a ticket taped to the bottom side of their chairs. Even more prizes were then raffled off.
Players capped off the evening with some spirited dancing and partying, all to the sounds of DJ provided by Canaan.
