You want your children to be active and healthy. You want them to learn the valuable lessons of playing on a team. You know that tennis provides a way to achieve all of these goals and bring you even closer together.
You play a vital role in giving your child a great first tennis experience. All you need is a basic knowledge of the game, foam balls and junior sized racquets.
You can also get other children in your community involved in tennis as a team organizer or coach.
Team tennis is about turning an individual sport into a team sport. Because it’s a team sport, kids learn so much more than tennis. All the recognized benefits of team sports – team building, sportsmanship and confidence building – are an important part of team tennis. So while they’re learning, they’re also having a great time with their friends and with you.
USTA Jr. Team Tennis gives children the chance to advance to the only youth tennis league national championship. The USTA also provides stipends, administrative and marketing materials, and software to help your team get off to the right start.
As a team organizer, you will handle administrative duties – selecting coaches, drafting players, securing courts, scheduling matches, posting results, providing awards, etc. As a team coach, you will conduct practice sessions and supervise matches for children.
