Looking Back to the 2012 Event
The inaugural inclusion of the Adaptive Tennis Division at the 2012 National Public Parks Tennis Championships in Denver, CO was a huge success! The Adaptive Tennis divisions had twenty-five athletes entered in singles, doubles, and unified doubles. The twenty-three unified partners (tennis players from the community) were impressed by the strong level of tennis in this division.
Adaptive Tennis players came from eight states, including international players from Germany and Switzerland. Twenty-nine Wheelchair Tennis players from six states competed in the tournament as well. All of the athletes were excited about the inclusion of adaptive and wheelchair divisions in a national tournament of this caliber.
The tournament was successful because of the teamwork and dedication by all involved. Volunteers from the community participated in many ways: ball persons, the hospitality tent, greeters, and fans. This tournament is unique in that it rotates from city to city each year and players of all abilities and divisions are welcome.
