The Omaha Tennis Association has completed its project of building four 60-foot tennis courts at the Koch Family Tennis Center. This vibrant CTA is not worried about filling those courts. A recent USTA QuickStart Tennis Training brought in interested parties from many diverse tennis backgrounds to learn more about the new play format. The OTA was quick to fill its training session due to outreach efforts to the entire tennis community.

Kerry McDermott, University of Nebraska Men’s Tennis Coach, drove from Lincoln to check out this new playing format. Mike Saniuk, University of Nebraska at Omaha’s Men’s Tennis Coach, joined in the training as well. Alongside these top-notch collegiate coaches were coaches and instructors from Special Olympics/Tennis Buddies, Learn-to-Play and NJTL programs. Interested parents and even some young players packed the courts. Over forty registered participants received the training in the QST format.

The Omaha Tennis Association (USTA Missouri Valley Section’s largest CTA) extended an invitation to ANYONE who wanted to know more about the QST format. Additionally, the Nebraska District offered scholarships to volunteers who would commit to at least one session to assist with Special Olympics/Tennis Buddies or NJTL and inner city outreach projects. This diversity and inclusion effort resulted in a successful day of training and volunteer outreach.
