A USTA Community Tennis Association (CTA) is "any incorporated, geographically defined, not-for-profit, volunteer-based organization that supports or provides programs which promote and develop the growth of tennis."  As an association, the group works to coordinate and maintain tennis programs and services; guaranteeing that they are open and accessible to all.  Fueled by local volunteers, they exist to promote and develop the game of tennis in the community.

This award honors a Community Tennis Association for outstanding service rendered in growing and developing the sport of tennis in its community. The 2012 CTA of the Year Award will be presented at next year's USTA Community Tennis Development Workshop. The United States Tennis Association continues the tradition of honoring persons for outstanding fieldwork in community tennis by presenting its prestigious and annual USTA Eve Kraft Community Service Awards during the annual USTA Community Tennis Development Workshop.
