Frequently Asked Questions

What are USTA Flex Leagues?

USTA Flex Leagues group players of similar ability together in an organized season that allows players to schedule 5-8 matches when and where it's most convenient. Local option decides which divisions and NTRP flights are offered each season. Players register, view schedules, report scores and track standings at ustaflex.com.

How long has USTA Flex Leagues been around?

Launched in five cities in 2008 and expanding to 120 communities in 2012, this program is for tennis players who want to play more tennis when and where it's most convenient.  The USTA has been a leader in organized league play for nearly 3 decades offering USTA League, the largest recreational league in the United States.

The United States Tennis Association is the national governing body for the sport of tennis in the U.S. whose mission is to promote and develop the growth of tennis at every level—from local communities to the highest level of the professional game. A not-for-profit organization with over 740,000 members, the USTA invests 100% of its proceeds in growing the game. Whether you support the USTA through playing in USTA programs, your USTA Membership, attending the US Open or donations to its foundation, USTA Serves, you are supporting the growth of tennis. Your funds support tennis and education programs, leagues, parks, grants and scholarships, as well as the development of future champions.

How does it work?
1. Search for a league in your area and register for a flight.
2. If your search shows no results, you can submit your email to be notified when a league opens in your area each season.
3. When registration closes, the Local Tennis Organizer will schedule the flights.
4. When your schedule is published, you will receive an email that tells you how to view your schedule and contact information of your opponents.
5. If there is a calendar icon next to a player's name, the player has used the availability calendar/comment box to indicate preferred days/times/sites for matches or to show times of unavailability. Players must email/phone to confirm day/time/site of match.
6. Winner of the match is responsible for entering the score but either player may do so.

Do I have to be a USTA Member to play?

No! While USTA Members save $10 on each registration, you do not have to be a member to play.

What does it cost to play?

Singles – USTA Member ($25); non-USTA member ($35)

Doubles – USTA Member ($20); non-USTA member ($30)

The “home” player is required to supply the balls and arrange and pay if necessary for the court time unless both players agree to another arrangement.

I work in the city but live in the burbs. Where should I play my matches?

We’re flexible. You make the call. When you sign up you will have to select a zip code, city or metro area of where you would like to play. This will help us build our flights and be able to minimize the travel time to and from matches for you and your opponents.

What format of play is used?

Local option decides if league plays best of three sets or a 10 point match tiebreak in lieu of a third set.

What levels of play are offered in my area?

All flights are based on the NTR levels so you know you will be playing against players of a similar ability level. Search by state and metro area to see which flights are offered in your area each season.  So whether you are starting up, getting back in the swing of things or a seasoned veteran there is a flight for you. NTRP Guidelines.
