Why did the USTA make this change?
The change in structure was made to ensure that USTA League continues to meet the needs of its constituents in the years ahead. The restructuring encourages more frequency of play opportunities at more appropriate age divisions.
This, in turn, will create and develop more players, which allows for additional court time sold, more clinics/lessons for your teaching professionals and additional pro shop sales for team uniforms. The restructuring will also give USTA more sizzle, life and buzz as we continue to try to grow and develop tennis throughout the country.
What are the benefits of making the change to providers?
Age restructuring of USTA League is expected to produce a significant increase in participation in the years to come. That translates into increased revenue for your facility in terms of more facility members, more court time sold, more clinics/lessons and increased pro shop revenues.
Will organizing a team be easier, more difficult or the same?
Organizing teams should remain unchanged. If anything, the new structure should provide your members with more opportunities to play on more teams and enjoy making new friends. With the availability of the Team Management Tool (TMT), at no cost, it could even make the challenges for the captain easier to manage.
Do I have to hold more courts to play League matches?
Yes, but only for Adult 40 & over if the administration endorses the championship format for local league play. The Adult 40 & over level will consist of two singles and three doubles matches, while the retiring Senior level—50 & over—consists of three doubles matches.
