INDIAN WELLS, Calif. -- After an exciting day of highly-competitive tennis at the 2012 USTA League 4.5 Senior National Championships, play has come to a close on Day 1 at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden.
Highlights from today’s action:
Flight 1 – The New England Section women’s team from Boston is in first place with a 2-0 record. The will play Pacific Northwest (0-2) in their final flight match at 9 a.m. (PDT) on Saturday.
Flight 2 – The Southern Section women’s team from Charlotte, N.C. is in first place with a 2-0 record. They will play Florida (0-2) in their final flight match at 7:30 a.m. (PDT) on Saturday.
Flight 3 – In the most competitive flight of the tournament, each of the four teams finished the day with identical 1-1 records and still have a chance of reaching the semifinals. At 7:30 a.m. (PDT) on Saturday, the Eastern Section women’s team from Syracuse, N.Y. will play the Mid-Atlantic Section from Washington, D.C. and the Intermountain Section team from Park City, Utah, will face the Midwest Section team from Chicago.
Flight 4 – The Middle States women’s team from Philadelphia is in first place with a 2-0 record. They will play the second place Texas Section team (1-1) at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday.
Flight 5 – The Southern California Section men’s team from Fountain Valley, Calif. leads the flight with a 2-0 record. They will play Eastern (1-1) in their final flight match at 9 a.m. (PDT) on Saturday.
Flight 6 – The Midwest Section men’s team from Cleveland and the Texas Section men’s team from Houston are tied for first place with 2-0 records. They will face-off against each other at approximately 10:30 a.m. on Saturday. The winner will advance to Sunday’s semifinals.
Flight 7 – The New England Section men’s team from Boston is in first place with a 2-0 record. They will play their final flight match at 10:30 a.m. (PDT) on Saturday against Hawaii (0-2).
Flight 8 – The Northern California Section men’s team from Danville, Calif. is in first place with a 2-0 record. The will play their final flight match versus the Intermountain Section (1-1) at 9 a.m. (PDT) on Saturday.
Play continues on Saturday at 7:30 a.m. (PDT) with the remaining men’s and women’s flight matches. The women’s semifinals are scheduled to begin later in the afternoon at 2 p.m. (PDT).
The men’s semifinals and women’s final are scheduled for 7:30 a.m. (PDT) on Sunday. The men’s final will take place at approximately 10 a.m. (PDT).
