Surprise, Ariz. – Gift exchanges are a tradition that represents each team’s personalities or hometown identitiy. For years, it is customary that teams bring small tokens to the opponent teams before each match. At the 2008 Super Senior USTA National Championships they have really gotten creative with this practice.
~ The NorCal 6.0 Men brought their regions finest: half a bottle of zinfandel from Piña wineries. Labels in the bottles match their uniforms.
~ Southern 6.0 Women wildcard are giving a party Mardi Gras style! Ladies are giving a small bag with pralines, beads and Cajun gumbo mix.
~ True to tradition: 6.0 Caribbean men brought their rum in an assortment of flavored mini bottles to their fellow opponents.
~ Women 6.0 Hawaiian team presented chocolate macadamia delicacies.
~ Blue bonnet leis where presented to the Hawaii team by the Texan 6.0 men.
~ Southwest ladies presented cactus mini dish towels to fellow opponents.
It doesn’t matter if gifts are big or small, but they surely represent of the newfound friendships made at USTA League Nationals.
