Surprise, Ariz. - At the USTA League presented by Chrysler 7.0 Super Senior National Championships, there are many great teams from all around the United States.
In 2006, a Puerto Rican team from the Arraq Tennis Club in San Juan formed together to compete on the USTA Super Senior 7.0 level.
The Commonwealth of Puerto Rico is a self-governing unincorporated territory of the U.S., located in the northeastern Caribbean, just east of the Dominican Republic.
Team Arraq has been one of the most successful Puerto Rican teams as it has won sectionals three consecutive years as thus gone on to represent their Caribbean region at nationals.
Four players still remain from the original Team Arraq as Waldo Oliver, Jaime Fornaris, Miguel Gonzalez and Luis Nieves act as charter members.
“Even if we do not win it all, we still fight for each and every point until the end,” said Nieves. We are back in Surprise, Ariz. with no surprises at all!”
Last season, Team Arraq was runner-up for the 7.0 Super Senior National Championship in Mobile, Alabama, losing out to a team from the Pacific Northwest, 2-1.
“Our goal this weekend is to concur all rivals and to bring the 7.0 Super Senior Championship trophy back to Puerto Rico.”
Today the Puerto Rican team will be facing team Southern. Yesterday the men from San Juan lost to the Midwest team, 2-1.
