BlazeSports America and U.S. Paralympics are pleased to continue our 2009 Webinar Series on Wednesday, July 15, 2009 at 3:00pm EDT with a webinar entitled: Wheelchair Tennis: Part 1-The Birth of a Program and How to Sustain It.
This first part of a series of webinars on wheelchair tennis will cover the essential tools needed to start and sustain a local wheelchair tennis program. Facilities, players, coaches, and organizers are all pieces of this puzzle that enhance a community’s relationship with wheelchair tennis that sparks the social integration wheelchair tennis provides.
Learning objectives:
1) Identify three components of a successful wheelchair tennis program and what to do to create a positive culture for the sport.
2) Identify at least eight areas of recruitment for potential wheelchair players and techniques to share the message. Identify at least four ideas that support funding of a wheelchair tennis program.
3) Access at least seven resources for program directors and review their contribution.
4) Develop an understanding of the contributions of creating a wheelchair tennis program and how to facilitate these areas.

Our speakers will be:
Randy Snow won 10 US Open singles titles, was the first Masters and ITF World Champion and won both the singles and doubles gold medals at the 1992 Paralympics in Barcelona, Spain. He played for the United States 9 times in World Team Cup competitions, winning 8 times. He started the wheelchair tennis camp series in the United States conducting over 100 camps, wrote four books, served as the Vice Chair for the USTA Wheelchair Committee, and partnered the resources to provide 2 full ride collegiate scholarships for women at the University of Texas at Arlington. In 2004 he was the first Paralympian inducted into the USA Olympic Hall of Fame. Randy lives in Terrell, Texas. He is an inspirational speaker, an author, a nationally recognized sales associate, Olympic Hall of Famer, Paralympic gold medalist and consultant for Quickie Designs. In what little spare time he has, he spends fishing, exercising, reading and baby-sitting 11 nieces and nephews.
Dan James is the National Manager and National Head Coach for Wheelchair Tennis with the USTA. He has coached at three Paralympic Games (Sydney, Athens, Beijing), the Parapan American Games, and eleven World Team Cups. His teams have amassed eleven individual medals including five gold medals. Dan is the key contributor and editor of the new USTA Wheelchair Tennis Manual and Drills book and the voice of the USTA Wheelchair Tennis DVD. He resides in Oakdale, MN.
