2007 National Collegiate Wheelchair Tennis Tournament

Collegiate Athletes brings their “A” Game to Bellarmine University

 

The 2007 National Collegiate Wheelchair Tennis Tournament was held at Bellarmine University in Louisville, KY on March 17th and 18th. Students representing their respective schools came from Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU), Louisiana State University (LSU) and University of Arizona (UA).

All of the matches played were very exciting to watch. There were many points played out in Deuce and several 3rd set tie-breakers. The longest tie break belonged to Michael Paul of MTSU and Laurie Zalmanowitz (UA) who played to a very exhausting 11-13, with Paul prevailing.

New Singles Champions for 2007

 
Jackie Cimino, in her first year at the University of Arizona, won her first ever National Collegiate singles title by beating Kirsten Everitt-Sharpe, 6-4, 4-6, (11). Jackie is in her second year at University of Arizona.

Kevin Green took on teammate Michael Paul to win his first ever National Colligate singles title. Kevin has been a finalist before but never a singles champion until his senior year at MTSU. Kevin was all smiles after winning the singles title and his very supportive mother, Candy, was at the tournament to watch the event.

MTSU Doubles Champions Again

Michael Paul and Kevin Green of Middle Tennessee State successfully defended their doubles title against Laurie Zalmanowitz and Eddie Medel of Arizonia. Paul-Green was down 0-6 in the 8 game pro set for the championship when they make the comeback of the year, playing to 8 all. In the tie break, Paul-Green won convincingly with a score of 7-0.
