WHITE PLAINS, N.Y., The USTA announced today that 64 co-ed teams representing colleges and universities across the country will converge in Surprise, Ariz., April 15-17, for the 2010 USTA National Campus Championship . The 2009-2010 USTA Tennis on Campus season will culminate with a field of 50 USTA Sectional champions and runners-up, along with 14 teams who received at-large bids, all vying for the title of National Campus Champions.
The USTA Tennis On Campus program features more than 30,000 college students competing nationwide in intramural and intercollegiate club play using the World TeamTennis format. Since its inception in 2000, Tennis On Campus has grown significantly and today is played on more than 500 college campuses across the country.
Developed by the USTA, the Tennis On Campus program gives college students the chance to network in a social environment and compete without the rigors of a varsity program. Tennis On Campus offers match play, and regional and national championship competition while helping students maintain active and healthy lifestyles through their college years. The program has proven itself as the perfect fit for athletes who have chosen not to make the jump from high school to a college varsity program.
64 teams who have received bids for this year’s National Campus.
The tournament is administered in partnership by the United States Tennis Association, National Intramural-Recreational Sports Association (NIRSA), Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) and World TeamTennis (WTT). This partnership not only has resulted in record participation at this National Championship, but in growing interest and participation in tennis on college campuses throughout the country.
