Donald Young will make his U.S. Davis Cup team debut in the 2014 opening round vs. Great Britain as he replaces an injured John Isner on the American squad.

Isner was forced to withdraw from the tie due to an ankle injury and U.S. Davis Cup Captain Jim Courier then nominated Young to take his spot in the lineup. Young, 24, was with the team as a practice partner.  The two teams will compete on a clay court in the outfield at Petco Park, home of the San Diego Padres, in San Diego, Calif. Jan. 31 – Feb. 2.

Young, ranked No. 79 in the world, is fresh off a third round appearance at the 2014 Australian Open. He  will lead off the tie for the U.S. against reigning Wimbledon champion Andy Murray in the opening singles match. Sam Querrey, the No. 1 singles player for the U.S., then will face James Ward.

In the doubles match Saturday, the world No. 1 team of Bob and Mike Bryan will face Murray and Colin Fleming. On Sunday, Querrey and Murray will face off first in a match-up of No. 1 players and then Young vs. Ward will close the tie.
