Players for each team will be officially named no later than 10 days prior to the start of competition. However, U.S. Fed Cup Captain Mary Joe Fernandez announced that both Serena and Venus Williams are expected to compete as the U.S. looks to maintain its spot in the prestigious Fed Cup World Group for 2015.
The winner of the U.S.-France showdown gains a spot in the World Group and a chance to compete for the 2015 Fed Cup title, while the loser will be relegated to World Group II.
The U.S. Fed Cup team will be contesting its third consecutive home tie after competing in the World Group Quarterfinal in Cleveland this February, where the U.S. fell to reigning champion Italy, 3-1, and defeating Sweden in the 2013 World Group Play-offs, 3-2, in Delray Beach, Fla. The U.S. is 37-5 all-time in Fed Cup ties played at home and holds an overall 143-34 record.
This will mark the 13th matchup between the U.S. and France in Fed Cup competition. The U.S. holds an 11-1 record over France, with its only loss coming in the 2003 final held in Moscow, which France won, 4-1. The U.S. last played France in Fed Cup in 2010, a victory for the Americans in Lievin, France.
