The unlikely duo of Jack Sock and Vasek Pospisil stunned the No. 1-ranked doubles team in the world, Bob and Mike Bryan, in a five-set thriller to capture the 2014 Wimbledon men’s doubles title.

American Sock and Canadian Pospisil topped the 15-time Grand Slam champions, 7-6 (5), 6-7 (3), 6-4, 3-6, 7-5, to take home the championship.

Sock and Pospisil were teaming together for the first time and, besides the Bryans, upset a number of seeded teams en route to the title, including No. 5 seeds and reigning US Open doubles champions Leander Paes and Radek Stepanek in the semifinals. Among their other wins, they also knocked off No. 2 seeds Alexander Peya and Bruno Soares in the quarterfinals and No. 8 Rohan Bopanna and Aisam-Ul-Haq Qureshi in the second round.

They are the third team to win a Grand Slam title in their first tournament together and the first since Lleyton Hewitt and Max Mirnyi captured the US Open championship in 2000.

Sock, a 21-year-old originally from Lincoln, Neb., has now won two Grand Slam titles in his young career. He also teamed with American Melanie Oudin to claim the US Open mixed doubles championship in 2011.

The Bryan brothers were bidding to add their fourth Wimbledon title to their previous triumphs in 2006, 2011 and 2013. They have won five titles in 2014 and 98 titles overall in their storied careers.
