David A. Haggerty began serving a two-year term as Vice President on the USTA Board of Directors in January 2009. Previously, he served one term as a Director at Large starting in January 2007. He is Chair of the Strategic Planning Committee for the new term and a member of the Compensation Committee. In 2007-2008, he served as a member of the Strategic Planning Committee and Budget Committee, as well as Board Liaison to the Community Tennis Council – Green Group.
Since 2003, Haggerty has served as the Chief Executive Officer and President of Head USA and Penn Racquet Sports. He also has served for six years on the board of the USTA Middle States Section and as Chair of the USTA Section Marketing and Public Relations Committee, 2005-2006. Haggerty served a two-year term as Tennis Industry Association (TIA) President from January 2007 – January 2009 and currently serves on the TIA’s Executive Committee.
Haggerty began his career in tennis when he was hired by Prince as Product Manager, Accessories, in 1980. In his 14 years there, Haggerty worked his way up to General Manager before taking a position at Dunlop as the President of Racquet Sports. He moved to Head in 1998, where he served as General Manager and President of Head/Penn Racquet Sports before becoming CEO of Head’s U.S. businesses. In addition to his current duties, Haggerty also serves on the boards of Head Sport AG, Head USA, Head China and Penn Racquet Sports.
Haggerty has deep roots in tennis. He began playing at age 6, was a nationally ranked junior player at Pennsbury High School in Fairless Hills, Pa., and was the No.1 singles player for three of four years at George Washington University (Washington, D.C.), where he earned his B.A. in Business Administration. Still an active tennis player, Haggerty in 2004-05 was nationally ranked in singles and doubles in the 45-and-over age division.
Last February, he was inducted into the George Washington University Athletic Hall of Fame for tennis as well as the Mercer County Tennis Hall of Fame. He was named the 2008 Person of the Year by Racquet Sports Industry magazine.
Haggerty lives in Pennington, N.J., with his wife, Patti, and five children. He resides in the USTA Middle States Section.
