"Aces for Kids"
Aces for Kids is a national initiative of the USTA that is overseen by USTA Serves in conjunction with the USTA Public Affairs Committee. It strives to promote healthy lifestyles by combating childhood/adult obesity by providing disadvantaged, at-risk children the opportunity to learn to play tennis and improve their academic skills in a structured format; develop computer literacy; interact with a mentor and other students; and attend college preparatory sessions.
USTA Serves, established in 1994, promotes, through tennis, educational excellence, good citizenship and self-improvement for at-risk and other special needs youth. The Foundation awards hundreds of scholarships to American youth, helps fund USA Tennis National Junior Tennis League (NJTL) programs and supports new initiatives that reach out to inner-city youth. It also supports community tennis programs that link tennis with education to provide positive role models, academic assistance, and life skills for the prevention of substance abuse, violence and school-dropouts.
