Dear CTA Leader,
Happy Tennis Month! May is National Tennis Month and we hope that your spring tennis schedule is off to a great start. We are thrilled that you decided to renew your USTA CTA registration for 2009. By now, you should have received a 2009 USTA CTA mailer of resources and materials. I would encourage you and your members to regularly visit www.usta.com/cta throughout the year. We want to provide you with any information, assistance and resources that will help your organization achieve its mission.
Through the CTA registration process, we have noted that many of you are interested in support in key areas such as insurance, grant funding, training opportunities and resources. As you may know, in January the USTA launched the Recreational Tennis Grant for grassroots non-profit organizations such as CTAs. The USTA seeks applications for the Recreational Tennis Grant that are well established community based organizations or agencies committed to: increase tennis participation, support tennis programming, and foster diversity with both participation and programming. The USTA will award grants to selected organizations that present a clear vision for establishing community based partnerships to meet these objectives.
To view a listing of all grants offered by the USTA and to access the Recreational Tennis Grant online application, please visit www.usta.com/grants. The deadline to submit an online application for the 2009 Round 2 funding cycle is May 15, 2009 by 5:00 pm EST. In addition to grants offered by the USTA, your local USTA section and/or district office may have grants available to your organization. Please visit www.usta.com to locate your local section and/or district office.
If you’re running any tennis program in your community, I highly recommend you have insurance coverage. The USTA has two great low cost insurance programs for your CTA to consider: a master liability and accident insurance plan provides coverage against allegations of negligence resulting from bodily injury or property damage; and the Directors and Officers provides coverage for claims associated with negligent acts, errors or omissions alleged to have been committed by individuals acting in their capacity as a CTA Director or Officer. For additional information on enrolling in one or both of these programs please call our insurance consultant Eagle Risk Management at 888-654-USTA (8782). You will not find a cheaper insurance option on the market!
In effort to help you grow tennis and education in your local community, we are continually striving to find the right quality resources and programs to offer you. With that being said, we have heard from the field that there is a need for many of our organizations to have a stronger, more robust, web presence. We know that having a web presence can make it easier for participants to find you, register for your programs, and even donate to your organization.
To that end, we are in the process of developing a free or discounted benefit to provide you with website development. But, in order to do so, we need to know how many CTAs/NJTLs would be interested in something like this. To help us better determine your needs, please complete this short survey on this potential new NJTL benefit. Your answers by Friday, May 29th are greatly appreciated.

We are pleased to have CTAs in every region of the country offering a diverse array of tennis programming such as leagues, ladders, tournaments, NJTL programs, and junior team tennis. We’d love to showcase the great work of your CTA to fellow grassroots tennis organizations. Please email photos of your programs and events to cta@usta.com.
We wish you a very successful spring tennis season and hope that you will continue to utilize the USTA and your local section and district offices to assist you in your efforts. We look forward to helping you grow tennis in your community. Dream Big!
Sincerely,
David Slade
