Wheelchair tennis at the Australian Open has given the United States duo of David Wagner and Nick Taylor yet another Quad Doubles championship. Defending last year's Australian Open Grand Slam title was supposed to be an even bigger challenge in 2009 as they faced the gold and silver medalists in singles from the Beijing Paralympic Games.
Peter Norfolk from Great Britain and Sweden’s Johan Andersson started off strong, but the team of Wagner and Taylor won the last three games of the first set and the first four games of the second set on their way to a 6-2, 6-3 victory.
When asked about the victory Wagner replied, “Nick and I could not have asked for a better way to start off the 2009 season.”
This is the first major championship for the American team since winning their second gold medal in Quad Doubles at the 2008 Beijing Paralympic Games.
