Ronnie Schneider stunned top-seeded Mitchell Krueger in the boys' 18s round of 16.
By Ronnie Schneider, special to USTA.com

Ronnie Schneider from Bloomington, Ind., received a wild card into the Boys' 18s ITF event at the Easter Bowl by way of his victory last month at the USTA National 18s Spring Nationals in Mobile, Ala. Schneider, a high school junior, has committed to play the University of North Carolina to play his college tennis. After a week of play in Carson at the USTA Spring Internationals, Schneider checks in at the Easter Bowl.

Hello again everyone,

I am sorry to say that I am now sitting at the Ontario airport waiting for my flight home. I lost a heartbreaker in my  quarterfinals 7-5 in the third. I fought back well from being down in each set, but in the end, it just wasn't enough.

Sitting here, I am getting game by game updates about my fellow Hoosier, Brooke Austin, who is in the finals and just split sets. Hopefully she can bring a title back to Indy!

I would like to give a big thanks for everyone involved in running the Easter Bowl. As any player will tell you, it is one of if not the most well run tournaments that we go to. Palm Springs is a beautiful place to play a tournament, and I have always looked forward to coming out here. Unfortunately, I will not be coming back next year because I will not be age eligible. I have been out here four or five times now, and I will miss the early April date every year.

I had a blast doing these blogs, and I really hoped you enjoyed them!

Thanks,

Ronnie

Hey all! Hope you had a wonderful day. I had a great match today in the round of 16. I played the No. 1 seed, Mitchell Krueger, and won, 6-3, 6-2. It was my first win over a top-10 ITF player. I stuck to the game plan my coach and I came up with and executed it the whole time.

After my match, I went with my coach to get lunch and go watch my roommate for the week, Sameer Kumar, play. We watched for about an hour, then I had to be driven back to get warmed up for doubles. We're just going to skip the doubles match and not talk about it at all (we lost badly). But anyways, after the match, I got a cool-down hit in for about 15 minutes and then went to dinner at the Haus!

The best part about dinner -- the dessert. The frozen yogurt place next to the Haus was wonderful. I got the mango tango and plain tart twist with strawberries and cheesecake bits. So good!! I now have to go check into another hotel since my time at the other was up. The worst part about that is the constant packing and unpacking, but I'll take it if it means I keep winning!

Last thing, a big congrats to the UNC tennis team. They beat Duke yesterday, 4-3, in an amazing comeback. I can't wait to join them in a year and a half and am thrilled to see the success they're having now!

My best,
Ronnie

Hi everyone,

Hope y'all (practicing for my future as a North Carolina Tar Heel) enjoyed your Easter Sunday. I had a great day of practice with my coach Bryan Smith and a few other fellow juniors.

I got into Rancho Mirage yesterday after making the two-hour drive from Carson, where I spent all of last week. I had a successful tournament, getting to the quarterfinals before falling 6-4 in the third set to Noah Rubin. It was a heart-wrenching loss, but I am ready to move on to this week.

My favorite place to eat in the Valley, the Haus of Pizza, disappointed me extremely when I went there for dinner only to find they were closed! Who closes on Easter? I'm kidding, of course.

I look forward to blogging more this week when I can talk more about my matches and my experiences in California.

Have a great day!
