USTA.com caught up with some of the teams competing at the 2012 USTA JTT 18 and Under National Championships to see what brings them together as a team and who wanted to bring lobsters as a gift.
 
TEAM PROFILE NO. 1:
Midwest – Port Huron Predators, 18 and Under Intermediate
 
What does it mean to you to be competing at the USTA Jr. Team Tennis National Championships?
It means the world to us.
 
How was your team formed?
We all play at the same club. Also, five team members play on our high school team together.
 
Do you have a team motto or team cheer?
Play hard, have fun.
 
Choose a song that represents your team?
Wobble
 
What gift did you bring for the gift exchange? Why did you choose it and how does it represent your Section?
Chocolates shaped as the state of Michigan with cherries grown in Michigan.
 
How does your team represent sportsmanship and camaraderie?
Andrew’s charm
 
If you had dress as a tennis player for Halloween, who would you choose and why?
Rafa and Monfils
 
What memories will you take with from this experience?
Southern hospitality, playing on center court, and Opening Ceremony.

New England – Newburyport, 18 and Under Intermediate
 
What does it mean to you to be competing at the USTA Jr. Team Tennis National Championships?
It is an opportunity of a lifetime.
 
How was your team formed?
We played together growing up and formed a team.
 
Do you have a team motto or team cheer?
Lots of energy, lots of focus.
 
Choose a song that represents your team?
Shipping Up to Boston
 
What gift did you bring for the gift exchange? Why did you choose it and how does it represent your Section?
We brought lobster lollipops to reflect our region. They wouldn’t let lobsters on a plane.
 
How does your team represent sportsmanship and camaraderie?
Compliments. We are here for fun.
 
If you had dress as a tennis player for Halloween, who would you choose and why?
Serena Williams, for her styled high heels and hoop earrings.
 
What memories will you take with from this experience?
Playing a lot of people from different places.

TEAM PROFILE NO. 3:
Caribbean – Torrimar Coquis, 18 and Under Advanced
 
What does it mean to you to be competing at the USTA Jr. Team Tennis National Championships?
We’ve traveled to ITF events before, but this is a great experience to travel as a team.
 
How was your team formed?
We play tournaments together and we’ve known each other for years.
 
Do you have a team motto or team cheer?
It is in the works.
 
Choose a song that represents your team?
Anything reggaeton by Plan B or Archangel.
 
What gift did you bring for the gift exchange? Why did you choose it and how does it represent your Section?
Puerto Rican bracelets. They sell them on every beach.
 
How does your team represent sportsmanship and camaraderie?
Everyone supports one another. Everyone pumps each other up.
 
If you were going to dress as a tennis player for Halloween, who would you choose?
Serena, Sharapova, Nadal, Federer, and Monfils
 
What memories will you take with from this experience?
Meeting everyone and getting to make new friends.
