Adopt-A-Unit
|
This year at the National Championships, USTA will be collecting care packages for the Adopt-a-Unit effort. Teams will have the opportunity to adopt anywhere between 25 and 100 service members deployed to Afghanistan by sending care packages of necessities. All teams who volunteer to participate will be assigned a specific item from the list below:
- Beef jerky/Slim Jims
- Sunflower Seeds and nuts (individually wrapped)
- Protein Bars/Granola Bars
- Powdered Drink Mixes
- Tuna in foil bags
- Pairs of athletic socks (tube or crew)
- Hand Warmers
- Hot Chocolate/Coffee
- Personal or Baby Wipes (personal size)
- 4 oz. Hand sanitizers
- Letters of support (Leave unsealed for content screening)
- 100+ Lip balm
Items will be collected during the coach’s registration on Thursday at Cayce Tennis and Fitness Complex. After the opening ceremony on Thursday, all of the items will be packed individually for each soldier.
In turn, USTA Serves, the National Charitable Foundation of the USTA, will send portable tennis equipment to the adopted unit on your behalf with instructions and educational information on tennis.
Players and coaches are also encouraged to include handwritten notes or cards with their care packages. Team participation in this project will contribute towards consideration for the Team Spirit Award, to be given out at the end of Nationals. This is a great opportunity for players, coaches and families to have fun together while making a difference.
