Michael Russell finished the year ranked No. 87 in the world, his highest year-end rank since ending the season at No. 83 in 2009. A veteran on the tour at age 34, Russell picked up his 23rd USTA Pro Circuit singles title—the record for all men in USTA Pro Circuit history—when he captured the title at the $50,000 Knoxville, Tenn., Challenger. Among his other results this year, Russell reached the doubles final at the Dallas Challenger and was a singles semifinalist at the Sarasota, Fla., Challenger. His 2012 ATP results include reaching the singles and doubles semifinals at Houston, advancing to the doubles final and singles quarterfinals at Atlanta and reaching the singles quarterfinals at Los Angeles.
