Former Stanford University star Mallory Burdette captured two USTA Pro Circuit titles over the summer, winning the first pro title of her career in July at the $10,000 event in Evansville, Ind., and following up that win by claiming the singles title at the $100,000 tournament in Vancouver. By winning the Vancouver title, the two-time NCAA doubles champion clinched a wild card into the 2012 US Open women's draw, as this year, the USTA awarded one women's singles wild card to the player who earned the most WTA Tour Ranking points at two of three USTA Pro Circuit hard-court events—$50,000 events in Yakima, Wash., and Lexington, Ky., and Vancouver. At the US Open, Burdette advanced to the third round, where she fell to two-time US Open champion Maria Sharapova.
