Tim Smyczek captured two USTA Challenger titles in 2012 in Tallahassee, Fla., and Champaign, Ill., to help launch the 24-year-old Milwaukee native to a career-high year-end ranking of No. 130. Smyczek also reached the semifinals at Knoxville, Tenn., and the quarterfinals at Honolulu and qualified into his second career US Open, where he defeated fellow American Bobby Reynolds in five sets in the first round before falling to Japan's Kei Nishikori in the second.
