Former Tennessee All-American Rhyne Williams posted solid results at both USTA Futures and Challenger events in 2012. Among his Futures results, Williams reached the singles final at Palm Coast, Fla., and won two doubles titles at Brownsville, Texas, and Harlingen, Texas. In Challenger play, he reached the singles semifinals at Champaign, Ill., won the doubles title at Sacramento, Calif., and advanced to the doubles final at Lexington, Ky. Williams, 21, made his Grand Slam debut at the 2012 US Open after qualifying into the men's main draw, only to fall to Andy Roddick in the first round. He earned a wild card to compete in his second Grand Slam tournament—the upcoming 2013 Australian Open—by winning the singles title at the just-completed Australian Open Wild Card Playoffs.
