Steve Johnson completed his four-year collegiate career at USC in May as one of the most decorated college players in history, and he has continued his tennis success at the pro level, as well, winning his first career USTA Pro Circuit Challenger title at the $100,000 event in Aptos, Calif., and advancing to the semifinals at the $100,000 tournament in Tiburon, Calif. The 22-year-old Johnson, who won back-to-back NCAA singles titles in 2011 and 2012, also earned a main-draw wild card into the 2012 US Open after earning the most ATP World Tour ranking points at two of four USTA Pro Circuit hard-court events held in the summer — the $50,000 events in Binghamton, N.Y., and Lexington, Ky., and the $100,000 events in Vancouver and Aptos. At the year's final Grand Slam, Johnson advanced to the third round, beating Rajeev Ram and Ernests Gulbis in the first two rounds before falling to Richard Gasquet.
