In 2013, the US Open will be celebrating the 40th anniversary of equal prize money for men and women with the largest purse in tournament history.

The total base prize money for the 2013 US Open will be $34.3 million, with $2.6 million going to the men’s and women’s singles champions. The $2.6 million marks the largest single payout in tennis history, and each round will see a minimum 37 percent increase from 2012.

Factor in the potential $2.6 million in bonus prize money available to the top finishers in the 2013 Emirates Airline US Open Series, and the total prize money at this year’s US Open could approach $37 million.

The round-by-round breakdown for the men’s and women’s singles competitions is as follows:

Winner: $2.6 million (37% increase)
Runner-up: $1.3 million (37% increase)
Semifinalist: $650,000 ( 37% increase)
Quarterfinalist: $325,000 (37% increase)
Round of 16: $165,000 (38% increase)
Round of 32: $93,000 (43% increase)
Round of 64: $53,000 (43% increase)
Round of 128: $32,000 (39% increase)

In addition, the prize money for the US Open Qualifying Tournament has increased by 37.5 percent, to $1.4 million, and prize money for the men’s and women’s doubles competitions has been increased by 12.7 percent as well.

The total figure is slightly higher than the US Open had announced in March, due in part to increased prize money for the US Open Wheelchair Competition, the return of the Champions Invitational and an increased player per diem.

This year’s US Open is scheduled for Aug. 26 through Sept. 9, with the US Open Qualifying Tournament beginning on Aug. 20.
