Pacific Northwest Men and Midwest Women Win National Titles

Tucson, Ariz.--- The USTA Pacific Northwest Section 4.0 Men, and the USTA Midwest Section 4.0 Women captured national championships at the 2011 USTA Adult League National Championships, held Sep. 23-25, at the Jim Reffkin Tennis Center in Tucson, Ariz.
 
The Pacific Northwest squad from Mill Creek, Wash. defeated a squad from the Texas Section from Houston 3-2, in the finals, after defeating a team from the Caribbean Section in the semifinal round.
 
The Pacific Northwest team is captained by Kent van Alstyne and features Justin Tran, Jeffrey Lee, Jason Bower, Justin Kinney, Danny Vo, Holden Au, Ryan Johnson, Marco Del Rosario, Ray Hu, Jason Webb, James Kim and Nelson Asaba and plays at the Mill Creek Country Club.
 
On the women’s side, the Midwest squad from Mishawaka, Ind. defeated a group representing the Mid-Atlantic Section from Richmond, Va. 3-2, in a thrilling final, which came down to a tightly contested doubles match. Earlier in the day, they defeated a team from the New England Section in the semifinal round.
 
The Midwest team is captained by Alice Cooper and features Melissa Cleveland, Kathleen Anthony, Gina Anderson, Tiffiny Schwartz, LeighAnne Roberts, Alaina Roberts, Janet Brooks and Lis Corrigan and plays at the South Bend Racquet Club.
 
Third place for the men went to the Caribbean Section, which defeated a team from the Hawaii Section in the consolation match.
 
The Southern Section women picked up third place with a victory over the New England Section team.
 
This year’s USTA League 4.0 Adult National Championship has drawn the top 34 teams (17 men’s and 17 women’s) from throughout the nation.
