The USTA ranks players in five year age increments from 30 through 90 for men and women, singles and doubles. Any player who meets the ranking requirement described below shall be listed on the Adult/Senior web site and shall receive a USTA ranking certificate for the divisions(s) in which the player is ranked.
Any player who is a USTA member and meets the age requirements can enter a national tournament. A player need not be ranked in his or her section to enter a national tournament. A player who reaches the age of the division by December 31st of that year is eligible. For example, a player who wishes to play in the 45 and over division must reach 45 years of age by December 31, 2008, or have been born before December 31, 1963.
Tournament Categories: Each year the USTA holds four (4) Category I National Championships in each age division on different surfaces: hard; grass; clay; and indoor (hard) courts. There are numerous Category II National Championships which are also held each year on various surfaces. In addition, each section holds various sectional tournaments (sometimes also referred to as “designated” or “closed” tournaments. Check with your section office to find out which age division tournaments are sanctioned as sectional championships (2x) and which are sanctioned as local (1x) events.)
Minimum Ranking Requirement: To be eligible for a national ranking in singles or doubles, a player must play in one (1) Category I National Championship in the age division in which the player seeks to obtain a ranking.

Points per Round Ranking System
If a player plays in fewer events, the points earned in all the tournaments played shall be used for ranking purposes. Players shall be ranked by the number of points they earn. Wins and losses shall not be used in determining a player’s ranking, only the points earned from each tournament will be used in calculating rankings.
1. Eligibility: A player is eligible for ranking if he/she plays in one (1) Category One National Championship.
2. Number of tournaments: Rankings shall be based on the total points received during a calendar year from the five (5) tournaments for men's singles, individual doubles and the four (4) tournaments for men team doubles, women singles, individual, and team doubles, in which the player or team received the most points except that:
· No more than two sectional championships per player or team may be used for a national ranking.
· The results of at least one Category 1 tournament shall be included among the tournament used for national ranking purposes.
3. Points per Round: Points per round are those points awarded based on the round the player or team reached in a tournament.
4. Ranking Tiebreaks:
1. most points earned in Category I USTA National Championships;
2. most points earned in Category II USTA National Championships;
3. most points earned in a single tournament.
(For example, if Player A wins a Category I USTA Championship and earns 1000 points and Player B wins 2 Category II USTA Championships and earns 1000 points total, Player A will be ranked ahead of Player B, because Player A won more points in a Category I USTA National Championship.)
1. Relative Weights for Adult and Senior Tournaments:
1.Category I USTA National Championships: 8x;
2.Category II USTA National Championships: 4x;
3.Sectional Championships: 2x; and
4.All other tournaments: 1x.
2. USTA National Intersectional Team Event shall be considered for ranking. Click here to see the point table for this event.
3. The base point table lists the points a player earns in a local tournament. In addition, there are separate points tables for the Adult/Senior National Intersectional events.
