DESCRIPTION OF PROFESSIONAL \ OPEN RANKINGS
The Professional \ Open Rankings are a composite of the year-end ATP\WTA rankings of American players and their points earned throughout various levels of events. ATP\WTA ranked Americans will appear in the order they appear on the year-end list. All other players will be ranked based on their points earned using the National Open Singles Ranking point system (NORS). In the case that some players are tied based on their ATP\WTA rankings, their performance at the selected events will be used to break the tie. Below we have listed the events for which points are given and a table that describes what points were awarded for winning various rounds. You may find that this list is often called the “Top 500 List”.
This is due to the fact that the list is used by the ITF to determine the top 500 ranked individuals for the purposes of selection into qualifying for ITF Professional Events.
