They are among the greatest ever to play the game—Andre Agassi, Pete Sampras, John McEnroe, Ivan Lendl, Billie Jean King, and Steffi Graf. Every one of them has left an indelible mark upon the sport of tennis with their talent, their style and the singular presence that defines a true champion. Throughout their illustrious careers, each was a major presence at the major events, and each made a particular impression at the US Open. Indeed, those names helped to define the tournament as one of the world’s greatest sporting events. Now, thanks to an exciting new initiative from USTA Serves, those names will be a part the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center—and your name can be right alongside your favorite!
These six legends now each have their own "Neighborhood" along the popular "Avenue of Aces," located on the magnificent grounds of the home of the US Open. The Avenue of Aces, inaugurated in 2005, is an eye-catching stretch of engraved pavers that welcomes fans as they enter the grounds through the NTC’s East Gate. This donor-supported program supports the good works of USTA Serves, the national charitable foundation of the USTA, which seeks to improve the lives of at-risk youth and people with disabilities through the combination of tennis and education. Since its inception, the Avenue of Aces has raised more than $1.4 million for programs utilizing that combination.
Now, you can show your appreciation for your favorite player and support the important works of USTA Serves by ordering a paver in your favorite player’s neighborhood!
You’ve cheered these champions from afar for years—and now you can move in next to them—thanks to this exciting new offer.
"Tennis continues to be an important part of my life so I’m very happy that USTA Serves asked me to be a part of the Champions’ Neighborhoods, especially since it supports youth tennis and education in underserved communities around the country," says Lendl, who reached the US Open final eight consecutive years, from 1982 to 1989, winning three titles. "It’s important to give everyone a chance to be a champion in school, on the court and in life."
"I applaud the work USTA Serves is doing to give young boys and girls opportunities to excel academically, become healthier and more fit and learn skills to help them succeed in life," adds King, the pioneering champion for whom the National Tennis Center was named in 2006. "I am honored to have a neighborhood on the Avenue of Aces and be a part of this effort with other champions."
To date, USTA Serves has awarded more than $10 million in grants and scholarships in order to give the less-advantaged the opportunities they need for a brighter future. By ordering a paver today, you’re helping to ensure a brighter tomorrow for those who need it most.
"I’m honored to be included in the US Open Champions’ neighborhood on the Avenue of Aces because like USTA Serves, the Andre Agassi Foundation for Education is dedicated to transforming the lives of under-served youth by providing academic opportunities," says Agassi. "So, welcome to the neighborhood and join our efforts to provide tennis and education opportunities so more kids can be champions in their own lives."
"When you support the Avenue of Aces Neighborhood program, you not only get to join US Open champions and become part of the US Open experience, you’ll be in the company of others who want to help our youth get educational and health opportunities they’ll need to succeed in school and throughout their lives," says Deborah Larkin, USTA Serves’ Executive Director.
