Earlier this month, 25 coaches traveled to Chatham, N.J. to attend the USTA’s High Performance Coaching Program, which was conducted at Centercourt Athletic Club of Chatham, a Certified Regional Training Center. The three day workshop presented the participating coaches with a framework for teaching and training High Performance junior players that is based on the USTA Player Development Teaching and Coaching Philosophy. Workshop speakers included Paul Lubbers, Mark Kovacs, Patrick McEnroe, David Ramos, and Geoff Russell. The presentations were both in the classroom and on court.
The USTA High Performance Coaching Program was created to provide direct and indirect Coaching Education opportunities to coaches working with players who are striving for excellence in tennis (i.e., nationally ranked junior players to top collegiate and young professionals). The USTA Coaching Education Department established the educational component in cooperation with the United States Professional Tennis Association (USPTA) and the Professional Tennis Registry (PTR).
