CHARLEROI, Belgium (AP) -- The United States will host Belgium in the opening round of the 2007 Fed Cup World Group, hoping to avenge this year's semifinal defeat.

In the other first-round matchups in Friday's draw, it's Spain at Russia, Japan at France and China at Italy. The first round will be played April 21-22, the semifinals on July 14-15 and the final Sept. 15-16.

Belgium, the 2001 champion, plays Italy in the final this weekend after beating the United States in the semifinals in Ostend in July.

"We have been there before,'' Belgium captain Carl Maes said, referring to the matches against the U.S. "We know we will be extremely well received.''

The U.S. won the first Fed Cup in 1963 and has captured it 16 times since, the last in 2000.
