Indian Wells, Calif. - When a sporting event or tournament is described as a “Major”, that usually means it’s the pinnacle of that sport’s competition. The USTA likes to consider the National Championships the “Major” of league tennis. One of the Florida men competing this weekend at the 3.5 Senior League National Championship participated earlier this year in another “Major”, this time in the sport of women’s golf.

Tom Lincicome was in nearby Rancho Mirage this past April. He experienced the thrill of watching his daughter, Brittany Lincicome win her first "major" tournament on the LPGA Tour, the Kraft Nabisco Championship on the Dinah Shore Tournament Course at Mission Hills Country Club.

Tom watched his daughter eagle the final hole to come from behind and win one of the top four LPGA tournaments of the year. Tom’s team saw the dramatic last hole on TV from home, surprised and delighted that Brittany won, but more surprised to see what Tom did next.

There’s a golfing tradition that the champion jumps into the nearest lake along with their caddy. As you can see from the photo and to the surprise of everyone watching, Tom “participated” in this “Major” as he joined Brittany and her caddy in a celebratory leap into the lake at Mission Hills Country Club.

Tom is sporting the hat from the Kraft Nabisco Championship for good luck and pride. Brittany’s now 17th in earnings on the LPGA Tour for 2009. And while she couldn’t be here to watch her dad play in his “Major”, the Florida 3.5 Senior team is joined by family and friends from all over the country. Team captain, Les Spang’s 87 year old mother is here cheering for the team. Les pointed out, “You’re never too old to watch your kid play sports but I don’t see her jumping into any water with me if we win!”

And Tom vows if he wins his tennis “Major” this weekend, with no lake in the vicinity, he’ll take a run through the sprinklers.
